    After a couple of months it resolved itself, likely through a software update, so I’m hopeful that the pending software update for the Genie 2 will fix this issue. To be fair, last year after mobile DVR first became available, I had a similar issue with my HR54. (Of all the people I know with DTV I’m the only one with a Genie 2.) So who knows why ours won’t work. Prior to the Genie 2, I had an HR54 and the app worked perfectly with it.įWIW I’ve heard other people with Genie 2s have gotten the app to work just fine, although I don’t know any personally.

    And you’re right: every time I contacted Directv they acted like they’d never heard of the issue before. I too have called DirecTV about this numerous times since I had the Genie 2 installed (back on Sept 7), and they were never able to resolve it. It won’t show me my local channels or my dvr contents, although I can still stream most of my other channels. However, as soon as I go on LTE or a WiFi network that isn’t my home network, then the app doesn’t work completely. While on the same Wifi at home I can access all my channels and dvr through the app it works like it should. I can get the app to register my genie 2, and if you go into the genie settings you can see it was successful. Please improve this clear communication problem. I should be earning commission for how many people I've brought to DirecTV from cable.

    What's frustrating for the consumer is that if it's a known issue, why has your technical support department never heard of it? 15 phone calls? At least 15 different technical support representatives and their supervisors? No one knew? Not good DirecTV. I should also add that I have a Galaxy Note 8 and I also made sure that I had the most current version of the DirecTV app. I've experienced some of the other "slowness" issues with the Genie 2, too, but those seemed to have been addressed by DirecTV. This sucks for me, as I travel for work two weeks out of every month. You can use the app to watch live TV, but not what's on your DVR. So anyway, the technician comes out, but he had no idea why it wouldn't connect, so he called some number where he has direct access to a specialist who told him that the DirecTV app currently cannot connect to the Genie 2 and that it's a known issue with no time frame as to when it will be fixed. The app just does the same thing every time! When you attempt to connect it says "Activating your DVR" then it says "Registering your DVR" and the circle icon starts spinning.then it says "cannot connect to your DVR". I reset the receiver multiple times, deleted and reinstalled the app multiple times, reset the network settings to wireless from wired and back again multiple times, and manually entered the IP address when the app asked for it. I had already done everything I could think of in order to overcome the issue. It took me 15 phone calls to DirecTV and speaking with numerous technical support specialists before they finally sent a technician out to our house.
